- dude, don’t bother. get yourself a copy of action replay and a copy of splinter cell(original, not greatest hits edition). that’s about total. then you can get the linux hack game save. put it on memory card from computer. then copy the contents from your mem card to the xbox hard drive. put the copy of splinter cell in. go to load the game save and it boots up an installer. it asks you if you want evo-x or avalaunch. pick which ever one you want. when everything is done you can play backups, unlock the harddrive, play dvd’s, rip dvd’s and games to the hard drive and whatever else your little heart desires.

- I believe that is exactly what you are supposed to do. But I am not too familiar with softmodding an Xbox. I hard-modded one a good 3 years ago, but not since then have a fooled around with it.

I would suggest asking in some of the EvoX forums. There are not too many modders here.

P.S. i plan on using a torrent to download it but i can not find any good torrents at the moment.

As usual, tampering with any electronic device has a risk.
If the chip works, then online play wont be a problem.

As for modding an actual GAME – that’s a different kettle of fish. I’m sure that with a little judicious internet searching you’ll be able to find something.

If by this question you mean that you turn your xbox on, you get nasty error message, nothing happens… dont know. if avalaunch was working before, something must have gone wrong. if you can’t ftp over to it and fix it, you could restore your hard drive. you DID backup your hard drive before you modded it, right?

- Microsoft has been rumored to send out updates that will brick a modded Xbox. And you can’t really opt out of these updates. If you don’t update you won’t be allowed to connect to XBL.

As for playing from the PC hard drive, do you mean pulling the games from the PC to the Xbox 360? Or do you mean playing Xbox 360 games in your PC? You won’t be able to play a 360 game in a PC at all. Making the 360 treat your PC as an external HDD may be an interesting hack. You can already pull music and movies from a PC (hell, from a Mac, I am doing it from my iMac G5) to the Xbox 360, so I imagine treating the PC as an external device should not be that terrible.

Then you probably want to go into the control panel and see if the firewall is on…and blocking your xbox. You can probably put the IP your xbox uses on the exclude list. That may fix your Issues.

- The ‘emulator’ is the software that is saved to your xbox when you first put the original xbox game into your xbox. You need a Hard Drive, or at least a memory card to use the old games. A list of compatible games is in the source link below.

Yes Elder scrolls is compatible, you do not get Gamerpoints on older games though.

- The Jasper chip is the name of the chip set used in the new 360s. As you probably know, the 360 has a problem called the red ring of death where the chip set heats up the solder on the motherboard, causing it to melt and allowing the motherboard to warp. As time has gone on, Microsoft has put smaller, more heat efficient chip sets into the 360s. The cases of red ring problems have dropped year by year until now. With the Jasper, the heat problem has been nearly 100% eliminated so you can see why so many people want that chip set.
To see if your 360 has the Jasper set, look on the back of the console. There is a place near the power plug that says ‘Made In China’. Above that is a series of dashes and numbers. If you have 12,1A above the ‘IN’, it’s a Jasper. 14,2A means it’s a Falcon which is the slightly older chip set. As of now, the only 360s seen with the Jasper set are the Arcades and the red Elites.

Edit: They’re only in the Arcade and Elites because the Arcades were sold out first so they could move on and put Jasper sets in any new ones they made. They’re in the red Elites because those were just made and released as a special promotional console for Resident Evil 5. The Pros are the most popular so they make more of them which means they need to sell them before they release the Jasper versions. The opposite can be said for the black Elites. They sell less of those so they would need to get rid of them before the Jaspers show up. I’m sure they’re making Jaspers for all versions of the 360. It’s just that they and the stores need to get rid of the older ones before they can bring in and sell the Jasper ones. Jasper sets will probably be seen in all versions of the 360 by the end of the year.

If you can remember the Commodore Personal Electronic Transactor (PET), you are too old to be playing video games. Well, maybe not. But if you remember the Commodore 64, you probably got your enthusiasm for gaming from the best-selling machine and the many games available for it, beginning around twenty-five years ago. The name has been revived, and gamers are taking notice of the new machines.

You've probably heard of the Commodore 64, and maybe the Vic 20. They were very big about twenty-five years ago. The Commodore 64 was a best seller and extremely popular gaming platform, back when a few “K” of memory was enough to provide a good time. In addition, in 1985 I was in Hannover, Germany, at the CeBIT trade fair, a huge show with over a half-dozen exhibit halls and all the latest technologies. There was a revolutionary new product called the Commodore Amiga being shown there, based on the Motorola 68000 processor family as the Apple Macintosh was, and with a cool new operating system, and a pretty new approach to computing compared the (also pretty new) IBM PC yet much more advanced in the graphics area. The Amiga was actually used in video production as well as for consumer use.

You know who won that battle. A version of the Amiga actually did quite well in Europe, but globally, the PC took over. Loyal fans of the Amiga have kept the novel technology alive, but on the sidelines. Now, over twenty years later, “Commodore Gaming,” according to their website a joint venture with Commodore International, is at CeBIT again, showing off their new gaming computer products. Braid centers on Tim, a man searching for a princess…sounds familiar, doesn't it? This game pokes fun at several games, most notably Mario Brothers. At the end of each level, which is divided into several stages, there is a castle with a dinosaur that comes out stating “The Princess is in another castle.” The similarities really stop there for Mario Brothers though. The object of each level is to collect every puzzle piece, and then put them together to form the picture from Tim's past that they represent.

This is possibly the first game I have played on the xbox 360 where I would look at the puzzles and think to myself “This is NOT possible.” Only to move on to another level and come back to the puzzle with a different perspective, allowing me to solve the puzzle. Herein lays one of the game's best features. You can zoom through every level of the game fairly quickly, as it is not necessary to solve any of the puzzles to get close to the end of the game. This gives you the freedom to examine them all depending on the mood you are in. It also allows you to skip difficult puzzles without having to quit the game until you figure a particular puzzle out. Throughout the entire game, there is only one upgrade your character will get, but it is only usable on levels after you obtain it.

In addition, Braid has beautiful graphics, and simple, non-intrusive music that is substantial enough to carry the game. Much time was put into the crafting of this Xbox Live Arcade Masterpiece, making it a must buy. If you don't already have it, simply log into Xbox Live and buy it from the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points.

Achievement Review

Close to half of the achievements in Braid are very easy, as they involve traversing every level entirely, not solving the puzzles. You can zip through the first achievements in less than half an hour. From there, it gets complicated, and levels must be beaten entirely to gain more achievements. There are also achievements for speed runs.

If you remembered the freeware game The Way of the Ninja, then you should expect an enjoyable time playing N+ on your Xbox360.

How to complete each of the challenges are simple: Guide your ninja to activate a switch in order to open the exit so you can move on to the next challenge. It does sound easy, but for the veterans that played The Way of the Ninja, you know it's not going to be easy.

Your Ninja can perform many acrobatic moves such as wall jump, wall running, sliding down slopes, and can jump REAL well. This will be handy as your Ninja will be facing multiple obstacles such as exploding mines, electric blue orbs, and stationary units that will either fire a homing missile, accurate shots, or even a laser.

Campaign mode will involve completing level to level. Each level is unique and it never seems to end up being boring. However, further levels will difficulties that will frustrate you to the core. You also have a time limit which can easily be refilled by collecting gold along the way of completing the level.

One of the best features of N+ is the multiplayer.

Multiplayer features 2 different Co-op mode, survival mode, and race mode. The first Co-op mode is basically the single campaign mode only you can play with up to 4 people online or offline. The second Co-op mode is a much more challenging campaign where two or more ninjas are separate (and cannot reunite) from each other and will require both of them to finish the level (I.E One needs to activate the switch while the other waits for the door to open) Survival mode is basically what it is. Survival mode will have you and other ninjas to survive against shooting turrets while collecting gold in order to refill your time limit or else you'll be gone until the next level. Race mode will have you and other ninjas running from point A to point B. You'll have to use your reflex skills to dodge mines and turrets so you can reach the Finish.

The downfall playing online Multiplayer is the lag. There has been lag that caused players to be near (but not touching) mines and ended up exploding anyway. This will cause some frustration when trying to complete a difficult level but other than that you'll still have a good time.

The graphics is simple, yet sharp and impressive. You'll enjoy hearing the trance-style soundtrack and the barrage of explosion.

What I enjoy in N+ is trying out in making my own levels. You'll have the right amount of tools to either create a simple or punishing environment. It's simple and easy for anyone to learn but veterans will offer no mercy

N+ cost 800 Microsoft points to play, but I'm telling you right now that it is definitely worth the money. And if you end up completing every level, then get ready to download some more!

You are able to create separate logins for anyone who uses the PS3. This allows for each person to go online with their information. Although it doesn't really have many more advantages than that right now it is rather insignificant. Next are the system settings. This allows the user to adapt the PS3 to their television and sound system. You can adjust the high definition settings to fit the maximum resolution of your TV. You also have setting for your blue tooth devices and Internet connections. The PS3 comes with built in Wi-Fi, which seems to have a strong connection that gives you almost seamless online use.

The PS3 also has a photo viewer. You can download photos by two different means. One is by using your camera and connecting it via USB or you can download the pictures with a memory card. This operation is rather simple and downloads are quick. Generally you get your standard slide shows although they have a fun feature. It allows you to view your pictures on a blank canvas as they fall onto the blank canvas. I think the picture viewer would be best if it allowed you to set music to your pictures. I hope they do make this a feature in the future.

Next is the music player. You can download songs by two different means. One being memory card, the other CD. Songs download much quicker via memory card than CD. Although Sony has talked about having downloads via the Internet, which I think would go over very well. You can listen to music while viewing a feature that uses colors and textures. It is your standard music viewer, nothing special there.

Now, on to the more notorious features of the PS3. The Blu-ray player. Most of you now know what a Blu-ray player is and does. I have viewed two movies on it. I have also viewed these movies on two different HDTV's. One a 1080p and a 1080i. I really did not notice much of a picture difference. After viewing a few movies on the xbox 360 HDTV player and the PS3 Blu-ray player I really did not notice much of a difference. One thing I have noticed about HD movies is that the ones more than a couple years older have a slightly grainy appearance since they were redone for high definition. Newly made movies appear crystal clear with vivid colors and tremendous definition. The PS3 does allow you to view regular dvd's which can make the transition that much easier.

Now would be the game play part of the interface. This keeps track of the game disc you may have in the player or also games or demos that you have downloaded. This interface is rather simple and easy to negotiate. For any ps2 owner it also carries your virtual memory card with all your game data. As far as the games go I have played three actual games plus several demos. Those games that are non-exclusive like Madden Football or Need For Speed to not have improved visuals over their Xbox 360 counterparts. The game speed is smooth and polished. The visuals on exclusive PS3 games like Genji are quite impressive. The PS3 seems to create a living vivid environment with the ability to create many textures and surfaces. Amazing graphics and sound quality will become apparent in many of the games in the next year. I have also enjoyed the few full games that are downloadable. The games have enhanced HD graphics and are affordable at only $7.99-$9.99. What I have enjoyed is online gaming. With the PS3 you don't have to pay any added fees. The gameplay was seamless and quick and allows you to use a blue-tooth headset when playing. I also believe you can use your PS2 headset via USB. The online gaming is virtually the same as the 360.

Lastly I will cover the online features of the PS3. On the interface online is a big part. From the browser, having friends, and checking your mail. The Playstation store is small right now with very few items to download. You have games, demos, and movie trailers. The store will continue to grow and has a nice feature that allows you to download PSone games for the PSP. Also a very intriguing feature that I think is really amazing is called remote play. When your psp is integrated into your PS3 you have the ability to view and listen to stuff on your PS3 anywhere in the world with your PSP. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection. I have tried this feature out and it's really enjoyable. I was able to view movie trailers and listen to my music on my PSP. The feature is nice although it is supposed to work when the PS3 is on standby. It did not work for me then, only when the PS3 was on and set for remote play. The only negative I have found with the Playstation Store is when downloading. Unlike the 360, when you download something you are not allowed to do anything else.

In closing I will say I feel the $600 is well worth it for the features you get. Wi-Fi, Blu-ray, memory card readers, HDMI, and of course the game playing. If you are on the fence and trying to justify a large scale purchase like this or just be waiting for more games and you want a wonderful living room centerpiece that will provide numerous hours of use, the PS3 is the way to go.

Introduction

The XBOX is just like a computer, it’s built by the same parts as a computer what differs is only a small number of things (such as the BIOS). An XBOX hard-drive is exactly like a regular PC hard-drive, in fact it’s alike enough to be put inside a PC and used. What I am going to go through in this guide, however, is how to explore the hard-drive’s contents, how to view all the files and directories on the drive. By going through what’s on the drive you will learn more about how the applications work and what an XBOX really is made up of.

Please notice: This requires an XBOX with a modchip installed! However, much of the folder structure of a retail XBOX is the same as that of a modchipped XBOX.

Utilities for  Exploring the XBOX HDD

• XCommander / What in a PC is simply opening Explorer, is in an XBOX simply opening one file-manager of choice. The XCommander software is the default file-manager on many dashboard-packages. It doesn’t sport fancy graphics or intuitive buttons, but it does what it’s supposed to. The main window is split in two to enable copying between two places. The controls take some time to learn, as with most managers out there. XCommander is capable of connecting to network shares as well as other sources. Also, it can copy games from the DVD-drive to the hard-drive. I have already covered the topic of copying games to the hard-drive, however with another piece of software.
• boXplorer / Like XCommander, a file-manager with the standard features. However, what boXplorer also can do is to play .xbe files (executables) and .wmv files, which together with its more intuitive interface makes it the better choice when compared with XCommander, in my opinion. The controls take some time to learn, as mentioned before, but they are mostly the same as in XCommander.
• XBOX Media Center / Among the filemanagers out there, the XBMC file-manager is my favorite. It shares the same sleek graphics as XBMC itself and has a clear and intuitive user interface. XBMC It’s features are identical to XCommander’s and boXplorer’s, but it really outruns them all in user-friendliness. Using the XBMC file-manager you can connect to network shares as well as the DVD-drive and online FTP servers. The software features an Add source button to add and save network-places or FTP-servers you use on a regular basis. And, if you already have XBMC you are not required to install or modify anything, it’s included!
